Young lawyers may social/networking event
 
The Young Lawyers Section of the Worcester County Bar Association is hosting their May First Wednesday Social/Networking event with the Massachusetts Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division.  The event is scheduled for May 4, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Mezcal Cantina, Agave Room, 30 Major Taylor Blvd., Worcester.  Hors d'oeuvres will be served.  All WCBA members are welcome to attend.  Click here for further information.
 
WCBA SUBMITS POSITION STATEMENT AND MODIFICATIONS TO THE PROPOSED PROBATE AND FAMILY COURT STANDING ORDER 16

The Family Law Section, chaired by Attorneys Barbara A. Cunningham and Penelope A. Kathiwala, presented a Position Statement and modifications to the Proposed Probate and Family Court Standing Order 16 regarding parenting coordination to the WCBA Executive Committee.  The Executive Committee at a meeting held on January 12, 2016, adopted the modifications and position statement submitted by the Family Law Section and have submitted the same to the Probate and Family Court for consideration.  Please follow the links below to review the documents.

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON NOMINATIONS

The Committee on Nominations, chaired by Gina M. Wilson, has reported that the following individuals have been nominated to seek election for a two year term on the executive committee:

From the city of Worcester and contiguous towns: Cassandra Arriaza, Roy A. Bourgeois, Matthew J. Holmes, Terry J. McLaughlin, Brian E. Murphy, and Philip M. Stone.
From the county:  Ryan P. Avery, Patrick K. Burke, Scott R. Davis, Thomas M. Hoffey, Jr., and Anna R. Phillips.

WCBA ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS THROUGH APRIL 15, 2016

The Worcester County Bar Association is presently accepting grant applications through its donor advised fund managed by the Massachusetts Bar Foundation.  Awards will be given to nonprofit organizations located in and/or servicing the population of Worcester County which provide services that are consistent with the mission of the Worcester County Bar Association.

The Worcester County Bar Association invites applications from nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts for projects that contribute to the following objectives:
     - Provide legal services to the poor,
     - Advance the administration of justice or
     - Support law-related education
in the city and towns of Worcester County.
     Through this program the WCBA will be able to award approximately $2,500 to eligible programs.

Law Day Committee Secures the Honorable Nancy Gertner (retired) as Guest Speaker

The Law Day Committee of the Worcester County Bar Association, chaired by our president-elect, Edward P. Ryan, Jr., is pleased to announce that the Honorable Nancy Gertner (retired), former United States District Court Judge for the District of Massachusetts is this year's speaker for our annual Law Day Breakfast. The breakfast is scheduled for April 28, 2016, at 7:30 a.m., at the Beechwod Hotel, Plantation Street, Worcester.

The Massachusetts Bar Association's Community Service Award will be presented to Attorney Richard J. Rafferty, Jr., of the law firm of Eden, Rafferty, Tetreau and Erlich, Worcester.
The Worcester County Bar Association's Liberty Bell Award will be presented to Donna M. Quick, Assistant Chief Probation Officer, Worcester Juvenile Court.

As a WCBA member you have access to our Mentor Program. We have over 75 experienced attorneys covering a wide variety of practice areas. These attorneys are available to assist you with questions you may have within a particular practice area, practical advice, and/or information on law office management, etc.
